Ben & Becca
A Pittsburgh Field Club Wedding
How did you two meet? “It started as a typical Saturday night for Ben, which means he and a few of his buddies were heading to Saddle Ridge for a night of “Texas Two Steppin’.”
For Rebecca, it was a special night as she was celebrating her twin sister’s bachelorette party. They started with dinner at Houlihan’s and then headed down to Saddle Ridge for line dancing lessons.
As the girls were dancing the night away, Rebecca noticed a couple guys who were twirling girls around the dance floor. They clearly knew what they were doing, and Rebecca secretly wished that she could learn a thing or two from them.
Ben noticed Rebecca stumbling her way through a few line dances and took it upon himself to teach her how to REALLY dance…
“Hey, you look like you wanna learn how to dance,” he said.
“I do!” she said.
“Well come find me for the next song!” Ben suggested.
“No way, YOU come find ME!” Rebecca thought.
Luke Bryan’s “Drunk On You” started playing a few songs later and Ben approached Rebecca to dance. He spun her around the floor with ease, and his moves literally took her breath away. Ben and Rebecca danced a few more times that night, then, as the bachelorette party was winding down, Rebecca and her friends decided to leave. As they were walking to the parking lot, Ben and his friend tried to get her attention by whistling from the balcony just outside Saddle Ridge, but Rebecca simply turned around and waved goodbye.
The next morning, Rebecca woke up regretting that she hadn’t exchanged numbers with the handsome gentleman dancer from the night before, but assumed that for all she knew, he was actually from Texas and she’d never see him again. With a little hope in her heart, she decided to drag her sister to Saddle Ridge the very next week, hoping that Ben would be there again. Alas, Ben wasn’t there, but his friend/dancing wingman, Justin, was there. While Rebecca was working up the courage to ask Justin where his friend was, Justin was texting Ben (who was away on business) to tell him that “his girl” was at Saddle Ridge. Because it was a slower night at Saddle Ridge, Justin left before Rebecca had a chance to approach him, blowing another opportunity to find out more about her dancing stud.
A solid month went by before fate stepped in and brought Rebecca and Ben back to Saddle Ridge. Armed with a couple bottles of “liquid courage” in his system, Ben approached his curly-haired dance partner…
“Rebecca, right?” he said.
“Yes, Ben,” she said.
Again, Ben literally swept Rebecca off her feet, and as they say, the rest is history!”
So, how did he propose? “ Rebecca and Ben had been talking about getting married for several months before Ben finally popped the question, so as the holidays were drawing near, Rebecca knew that a proposal was imminent.
Ben secretly began plotting his proposal with the help of his brother, Jaxon, who agreed to videotape the event, as well as Rebecca’s sister, Laura, who would be photographing the proposal. However, Ben’s rigorous work schedule made it difficult to plan (he was supposed to be traveling to the UK the week of the proposal, but, thankfully, the trip was cancelled at the last minute).
Ben planned to propose to Rebecca after work on Friday with Rebecca thinking they would just be going to dinner in the city that night.
When Rebecca arrived at Ben’s apartment after work, she parked on the side of his building, then went to the back door. After knocking a couple times without a response, she went to the front door, wondering where Ben could be. She noticed that his car was parked in front of his place, then saw a “flyer” that was posted on his front door.
As she got closer, she realized that the “flyer” was actually a handwritten note and map for her. Immediately realizing the significance of the note, Rebecca was barely able to contain her excitement, so she skimmed over the details of the map and immediately proceeded to the destination. The map lead her to the river walk behind the Cheesecake Factory in the South Side (the location of their first date). In her excitement, Rebecca missed the detailed drawing indicating which staircase to take down to the river walk and she proceeded to walk down the left staircase. As she hurried down the stairs, she immediately caught sight of Ben waiting for her at the bottom, then noticed his brother Jaxon…with a camera facing the opposite staircase. OOPS!
Rebecca also noticed a woman dressed in a floppy black hat, long trench coat, and armed with a camera at the bottom of the stairs. “Did Ben hire a professional photographer even though I told him not to?” Rebecca wondered. As she got closer, she realized that it wasn’t a professional photographer; rather, her sister Laura dressed incognito!
Rebecca approached Ben, he said a few sweet words, got down on one knee, and barely got the words out before she excitedly told him that she would “of course” marry him!!”
